Master Gardener Program in Manitowoc County 2019

At the end of 2019, 23 Master Gardener Volunteers reported 3,091 hours of volunteer service for an estimated value of $74,175 (Independent Sector).  They also reported 1,687 hours of continuing education and reached an estimated 2,496 individuals with various outreach projects.

Garden Walk Educates Attendees

This past July, MGV’s held their Garden Walk in the southern half of the county.  The garden walk provided education to the 316 attendees on the many different plants and gardening techniques that are being showcased by the hosts.  Print and social media got the message out to the community and surrounding counties.

Gardening with Hmong Elders

Seven Hmong women participated in creating and learning about raised beds, vegetables, esp. heirloom tomato plants, and pest management this past growing season to supplement the food at their nutrition site. One Hmong lady mentioned, “We want MORE vegetables from the garden not just these little plates.  

Plant Clinic

In 2019, ten MGV’s answered over 100 calls, emails, and walk-in questions during the months of May through September at the extension office.
