Teaching Children About Plants

Each spring the local Ace Hardware store invites children from the county to draw a picture of a flower and bring it to a workshop where they can receive and plant a free flower in a pot to take to their mother for Mother’s Day. MGVs teach the children how to plant a flower of their choosing. This year approximately 300 children took part.

Students Learn in School Garden

The Adams-Friendship Elementary School has a Student Garden where students plant and care for a variety of plants such as green beans, squash, strawberries, and many types of flowers. MGVs help guide the students in planting, mulching, weeding, and maintenance throughout the growing season, helping them learn about where their food comes from and how plants grow.

Plantings Improve Quality of Life

MGVs, in cooperation with several local groups, plant and maintain decorative flower planting throughout the Adams/Friendship community including at Moundview Memorial Hospital, Adams County Community Center, The Hazel Street Farmers Market, Villa Pines Senior Living Center, Adams County Senior Center, Adams County Library, and the Adams County Fairgrounds to make the areas more inviting and pleasant for residents.
